Annita - You're so observant. Of course such an unusual bowl/mug has a great story to it. :) I purchased this white handmade ceramic bowl-meets-mug from a small artists colony in western Ireland somewhere near Lisdoonvarna on the edge of the bogs there. I was doing a solo bike tour around there for a week in 1998 when I got purposefully lost (okay, I was just plain lost, but sometimes I like being lost when I'm touring on my bike) and couldn't find a room in any of the village B&Bs at the end of the day. I headed down a small rural road on blind faith, following a handpainted sign for "rooms" and came to find the most unexpected and quirky place full of musicians and artists growing their own food and renting an occasional room to a wayward traveler. It was one of the best places I've ever stayed and I had to take away a piece of their work to remember them by and I've cherished it ever since. :) My only regret is that I have absolutely no idea how to find that place again; from what I can tell it was a trick of the fairies to reveal that road to me as I was never able to find it on a map afterward...

Feel better soon!
have some soup...I hear that does wonders for colds!
I have to ask, is there a story about the soup bowl featured in your photo? My friend Karin always has stories about her china, or the tea cup or the silverware she is using for her dinner guests...Surely there is a history of this one?

We ordered Jason's Deli for lunch yesterday and I got a side of their version of three bean salad - kidney beans, garbanzo beans and edamame. There is a little onion, some cilantro, and a few specks of yellow and red bell pepper and the dressing was something that needed a little more acid/salt to it. It got me thinking about your blog, the weeks of soups and how easily this little salad could be turned into a quick soup - vegetable stock, a little lime, garlic, basil, cilantro, a hot pepper of your choice, the beans, a yellow onion, may be some greens from some spring onions scattered across the top when it is dished up. I came here to see what you are up and it is SOUP!!!!! This looks wonderful and you are so right - there is nothing that says comfort like a bowl of soup!! Hope you get to feeling better.
