More photos from my walks around the garden. These were taken on a gloomy rainy day, and yet it was so colorful when I looked through my lens. Have your mouse hover over a photo if you want to know what the subject is.

Do you have to bury the tree for the winter? I didn’t think they would survive this far north.

Are you referring to the fig tree, Lisa? If so, these particular trees are well established and don’t need any extra protection for the winter here in Zone 6. Any further north and they might or you can grow them close to a building so they get a wind breaker. When fig trees are young, they should be protected using burlap around their branches and plenty of mulch on their roots. We have young trees starting at the Weavers Way Farm (philadelphia) and these mature trees in the picture are at Longwood Gardens.

Hi — I’ve just discovered this blog; I’m going to be checking back often (I’m also trying to figure out how to eat more locally-grown produce in an urban environment — although I don’t personally have access to a farm and have to go with farmer’s market things). Better yet, Brooklyn is probably a very similar climate to Philadelphia, so I think we’re even in sync.

Gorgeous.
I’m so glad you shared. Our backyard is pretty nice for a city lot, but we don’t have quite the great winter interest.

Love the clematis seeds as well. I couldn’t figure them out! And the way water beads on the lady’s mantle always amazes me.
